Joe Curran, Pubwatch manager for Liverpool Chamber’s Business Crime Direct team, was featured in the local press yesterday as part of a major crackdown on cocaine abuse in Liverpool pubs, clubs and public buildings.
Tests by the press found traces of the Class A drug in many city centre premises. Joe explained how he and the team were working with licensees to make their premises as difficult to use for drug-taking as possible. Amongst these are spraying surfaces used for chopping cocaine, such as toilet cisterns or bathroom shelves, with WD-40. The oil base dissolves the drugs, making it impossible to take. He also advised that any new facilities should be oval-shaped, without any flat surfaces.
