Beware Bogus Chamber Jobs Scam

Liverpool Chamber would like to alert all of its members and online visitors to an online scam being perpetrated in our name.

An email pretending to be from Liverpool Chamber is doing the rounds, advertising the part-time position of ‘Account Clerk - Collections Ledger’. The email contains information about the Chamber lifted from our website. It claims to come from a Dr Helling Graham, with a return email address bearing a ‘Yahoo’ suffix.

Any expressions of interest are met with a request for personal details and the ‘offer’ to handle financial transactions for a third party in a foreign country. This is a variation on the infamous ‘Nigerian’ money-laundering / fraud emails and should be avoided at all costs. On no account should personal details be given, or any kind of dialogue entered into with the scammer.

For the record, please be aware:

* There are currently no jobs available at Liverpool Chamber.
* We would never advertise a post via an unsolicited email.
* No Chamber emails ever come from a Yahoo address.
* There is no Dr Helling Graham at Liverpool Chamber.

This matter has been brought to the attention of the Merseyside Police Fraud Unit. If you do receive such an email, please simply delete. If you are in any doubt about any communication claiming to be from Liverpool Chamber, simply call us on 0151 227 1234 and we will answer any questions you may have.

Members of the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce are being invited to enter the annual Kickstart Competition which is offering a £10,000 prize to the winning business. The deadline is 31st January 2007 so time is running out!

Prime Minister Tony Blair, Stelios Haji Ionnou, founder of Easyjet and Virgin Boss Richard Branson are all backing Kickstart- the campaign run by Merseyside Special Investment Fund (MSIF) and the Liverpool Echo.

The campaign aims to create 2008 jobs by 2008 when Liverpool becomes the European Capital of Culture.

During the campaign the Echo will be covering more stories and features on Merseyside businesses as well as providing advice and help in its business pages for people wanting to start and grow a business. The message from MSIF and the Echo is “There’s never been a better time than now to get started or expand”.

Last year’s winner was Liverpool Scenic Workshop. The company specialises in the construction and installation of high quality sets, scenery, stages, props, backdrops and other associated scenic products. They service the needs of the film, television, theatre, concert, music, media and exhibition industries nationwide. Director Jason Barker said: “Winning the ECHO/MSIF Kickstart award was just the best thing to happen to us all here at Liverpool Scenic Workshop.

“The name of the award could not have been more apt. A kickstart was exactly what we needed. Being recognised in this way gave us a tremendous boost to confidence in our business and allowed us to take on two more talented young people in our fast-moving creative industry.”

This year’s finalists will all be publicised in the Liverpool Echo and the winner will be announced at an awards ceremony which will take place in March.

Entrants may benefit from free publicity so it’s well worth taking the time to complete the simple form.

You can download an entry form, competition rules and more details on the competition at The Liverpool Echo site or you can call the Kickstart hotline on 0845 9000 151.

The deadline for entries is January 31st 2007.

Anyone wanting more information on the campaign can also email Kickstart.
