High winds across Merseyside are disrupting several travel options:

  • Merseyrail services are suspended except for Loop Line to Hamilton Square.
  • Buses continue to operate - Wirral services are turning round in Victoria Street avoiding Sir Thomas Street (due to debris and tiles - BEWARE).
  • Other services are operating but due to branches etc schedules are not possible - as other services are avoiding Dale Street. You are advised to get to Great Charlotte Street or Queen Square.
  • There is considerable disruption to all services but all Arriva and Stagecoach buses are still out and operating.
  • ARRIVA are accepting valid rail tickets on their services.
  • Runcorn Bridge is closed due to an incident - no details or time of re-opening (at time of writing - 15.15)

Update:

For Merseyrail see: www.merseyrail.org and click on the Wirral Line up-date message. Some services have now resumed

Friday: Service are back to normal. The Daily Post includes a report on the damage across the region and its effects on local businesses.

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) aims to minimise the impact of electrical and electronic goods on the environment, by increasing re-use and recycling and reducing the amount of WEEE going to landfill. The UK Regulations [PDF] implementing the WEEE Directive came into force on 2nd January 2007.

The WEEE Regulations apply to electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) which falls within the 10 product categories listed in the WEEE Directive, these include: large and small household appliances, IT & Telecommunications equipment, consumer equipment and electrical and electronic tools.

The basic premise is that the WEEE Directive will seek make producers responsible for financing the collection, treatment, and recovery of waste electrical equipment, and by obliging distributors to allow consumers to return their waste equipment free of charge.

To find out more about how this affects you, Liverpool Chamber Environment Club are running a seminar on 25th January 2007 to offer advice and guidance on the implications of the WEEE Regulations, in association with MERBEN.

Visit the MERBEN website for more information and to book onto this seminar:
