Over 1.4 million tonnes of commercial and industrial waste is produced in Merseyside each year and it costs approximately £70m to treat and dispose of, costs which businesses pay for.
James Cook, Waste Management Team Leader at Merseyside Environmental Advisory Service says: “The business community is a key stakeholder in creating a development plan to address this issue. Understanding the views of commerce and industry at this early stage is vital as the outcome of the process will have implications for businesses across Merseyside for the next 20 years.”
Consultation on main issues and options relating to disposal of waste management in Merseyside will begin next month leading to the development of preferred options later in the year. If you would like to give your input into this process, a stakeholder event will take place at 10am on 19 March 2007 at the Peter Jost Conference Centre, John Moores University.
