The Wirral Line loop will be closed in a similar fashion to last year to enable Network Rail to carry out further improvement works to the track. This time the section between James Street and Moorfields will be replaced giving a much more reliable railway in the future.

The dates are: Saturday 21 April to Monday 28 May (inclusive)

During this time services will terminate and start from James Street with the first and last weekends services curtailed to Birkenhead North and Birkenhead Central. During these weekends, a bus service will of course operate from the Wirral to the City.

During the entire period, like last year, a bus shuttle will operate from James Street to Lime Street.

08 on Millennium House, Whitechapel

National Museums Liverpool, the shimmering jewel in Liverpool’s cultural crown, have started a new photo group celebrating the city’s forthcoming Capital of Culture year.

Because of this great event, the streets are sure to be bedecked in the figures 0 and 8 for the next couple of years. Taking a short stroll around town, eagle-eyed museum staff were able to spot one or two 08’s already in place.

In the spirit of Capital of Culture year, they’d really like other people to contribute their figures of 08 from wherever they are, be it Liverpool, elsewhere in the UK, Europe, or wherever. If you’re interested feel free to join their 08 Flickr group and send in your images.

Road Pricing - Good For Business?

Today (Wednesday 21 Feb), the Prime Minister has responded to the 1.8 million people who signed an online petition opposing road pricing, saying it is not a ’stealth tax’.

At the same time, the British Chambers of Commerce have said that businesses are willing to consider pricing, if it results in an improvement to the county’s road infrastructure, and the costs offset through other taxes.

What we want to know is - what does the business community of Liverpool think? Will it lead to improved roads and supply routes? Or will it lead to increased overheads, especially for haulage companies and suppliers? Will it result in ‘dead zones’ where people no longer go, put off by the need to pay to get there?

You can let us know what you think by leaving your comments here, or visiting the main Chamber website and taking part in our quick poll.
