Cultural Festival Seeks Sponsors
One of Liverpool Lighthouse’s projects, City Sings Gospel, is spearheading an Amazing Grace project, backed by the Capital of Culture and the City Council, to mark the 200th anniversary of the transatlantic slave trade and the 800th birthday of the City of Liverpool.
The festival was launched with the pre screening of Amazing Grace in February and events such as Set Free and Sunday Night Live Gospel concerts have taken place.
May’s events include:
City Sings Gospel showcase (May 20th at 7pm, all tickets £2.00) featuring choirs from across the region
Paul Field’s anti slavery musical Cargo (May 23rd, 7pm, Tickets for adults £5.00, £3.00 for children 12 yrs and under and concessions)
The highlight of the festival is a magnificent Waterfront Festival in June that will feature a Waterfront Gospel Music Concert at the Liverpool’s top heritage attraction the Albert Dock and a transatlantic memorial service on board HMS Albion. This is an official city event, opened and closed by the city leaders, that will remember Liverpool’s role in the slave trade, providing a forum for it to reaffirm its continuing commitment to human rights and social justice
The first day of the two day event will be a Gospel Music Concert outside the Maritime Museum from 12noon till 6pm, with an impressive list of national and local artists including dj Fitz of BBC Radio 1 Xtra and Muyiwa of Premier Radio. It will celebrate the rich diversity in gospel music to include urban genres such as rap, hip-hop and reggae and will be relayed on city centre screens to thousands of people. Liverpool Lighthouse is keen to secure sponsorship for the event as it offers the following opportunities:
- Support for a highly significant City event as part of its 800th year celebrations
- Reaching local, national and international audiences
- Support for a major slavery commemoration event
- Lead up to an International Festival of Gospel Music as part of Liverpool’s Capital City of Culture celebrations in 2008
There are various avenues of sponsorship for people to get involved in from sponsoring the transportation required for the weekend to the hospitality. This is a great opportunity for local companies to get involved with.
