A story on the Daily Post & Echo website reports on the increase in numbers using VLM’s Liverpool to London air service.
As regular reader here will know, Liverpool Chamber has been supporting VLM’s campaign to save the service from the start.
“PASSENGER levels have increased on Liverpool’s crucial air link with London City airport.
The upturn was revealed in a record weekly performance for the Belgian-based airline during the last week of April when it carried more than 17,600 passengers, mostly business people, on its scheduled services
VLM said this was a 20.6% increase over the same period in 2006 and in the year so far the airline has carried 239,636 passengers, which is 17% ahead of the previous year.
“Last month, VLM chiefs used Liverpool Chamber of Commerce and regeneration organisation the Mersey Partnership to target businesses with an e-questionnaire to canvass opinions and they told the ECHO they were heartened by the response.”
We welcome this news and hope it bodes well for the security of this vital air link.
We also hope this acts as an example of the Chamber’s commitment to local business and illustrates the value of our support in keeping Liverpool a player in the national economy.
