Introduction to Marketing Training - 24 September 2007

Marketing is a crucial function of every business but it is not something that can be done just sitting in an office.

Listening to customers means meeting them and assessing the market. Monitoring the competition means being out there constantly looking for trends, changes and new developments.

Only then can an action plan be developed for the specific purpose of increasing your customer base. Chamber Professional Development is offering a highly participative course aimed at developing practical marketing skills for those with an eye for the future.

The course will include key marketing skills such as SWOT Analysis,
finding out about the market, methods of market research and customer targeting.

It will give you tips on developing a competitive edge and getting right your marketing mix and segregation.

The one day course takes place on 24 September and costs £188.00. You may be eligible to attract up to 60% of Skillworks funding to cover the cost of this training.

Contracts Of Employment: Where Does The Responsibility For Agency Workers Lie?

Do you know who carries the employment risk for your agency workers? This is a question that businesses should be asking themselves - most employment agencies engage their workers under ‘contracts for services’ which are intended to deny the existence of any employment relationship but this has created a grey area as to who, if anyone, might be recognised as the worker’s employer, the agency or the client?

This has led to uncertainty from businesses in appointing agency workers because of the concern that if the client was found to be the employer, they would be responsible for all statutory rights for which employees qualify. Of course, most businesses use employment agencies for the supply of temporary workers because they do not want, or need this responsibility.

Adecco Premier prides itself on understanding the complex “people pressures” organisations face on a daily basis. It has taken steps to clarify the issue of employee responsibility for its clients by issuing all temporary associates with contracts of employment. Contracts issued by Adecco Premier meet the requirements of the Employment Rights Act 1996. In this, Adecco Premier is clearly identified as the employer and all temporary associates are made aware of this before they begin assignments with our clients.

The benefits to clients and associates are clear. For companies looking to engage agency staff the risk of claims being successfully brought against them for unfair dismissal, redundancy pay, breach of contract and other statutory rights are significantly reduced. Adecco Premier’s associates are protected by the terms of their contract and enjoy rights as employees, which they would not previously have had, such as, maternity and paternity leave, redundancy payments (paid by Adecco Premier) and eye tests, making contract employment a viable option for professional workers looking to further their career within a new organisation.

The new Adecco Premier team in Liverpool has a wealth of recruitment experience between them. The new style recruitment services offered by the consultants ensure that interesting, talented and skilled people are matched with local businesses needing premier staff solutions.

Liverpool Chamber of Commerce has posted a vote on our main site’s homepage with regard to congestion charging in Liverpool City Centre.

We want to know if you think the city centre needs a charge. Will it improve travelling through and around the city? Will it help with pollution? Create ‘rat runs’ through exempted areas? And what about the costs to business? If you have an opinion, share it with us here.

Please vote today - the results will be posted on here and on our main site - and please include any comments you may have on this blog. Simply click the ‘comment’ link below this story’s headline.

Terry Ann, Brian, Andy and Carole at the Il Forno Platform LunchAugust is regarded as the graveyard shift for networking events with so many people on holiday. So it was with some trepidation that the Chamber organised a Platform Lunch at Il Forno on Duke Street during August.

We needn’t have worried as over 80 people attended and enjoyed a delicious meal prior to listening to the speakers.

Bryan Adams from PH Creative gave an excellent presentation on his companies products and even managed to bring Il Forno’s coffee machine into the proceedings.

He was followed by Andy Mantova, talking about the success of Smart Storage, his innovative new company, taking a completely fresh look at storage and the problems it can solve. In addition, Andy gave away a free weekend break in a business card draw.

Last, but not least came Terry Ann Hickey from the Mersey Skills Network, who gave details of the funding available to SMEs under Skillworks funding.

Procedings were wrapped up by Chamber host Carole Crosby, who also mentioned that Il Forno is just one of the restaurants covered by the Chamber’s LiveOne20 scheme which enables Chamber members to receive a 50% discount on food.

Pictured above are Terry Ann, Bryan, Andy and Carole.

Our next Platform Lunch takes place at the Leo Casino on 12 September. You can book your place online here.
