The crime fighters from Business Crime Direct have passed on this warning about a scam possibly doing the rounds of local businesses:

We have received information from a Chamber member who has received correspondence from Sweden.

The letter was in a window envelope and was addressed as to ACCOUNTS PAYABLE

The envelope contained an “invoice” style document asking for the remittance of $4,998.00 for a twelve months subscription to a magazine named “WORLDWIDE IT RESEARCH REPORT”. The document contained details of how to make payments to a bank account in Connecticut USA.

In the small print it did state that this is not an invoice & there is no obligation to pay. I suspect that is there to appear to be on the right side of the law as the document does seem to purport to be an invoice requiring payment.

So, keep ‘em peeled and don’t fall victim to this nefarious ploy.
