Young Chamber logoOur Young Chamber programme kicked into overdrive last week with our intrepid youngsters of the New Heys Executive Board visiting the Chamber of Commerce to work on their Events Challenge and attending an MEC Fashion show where none other than Phil Redmond was on hand to offer some words of advice.

The task was set to run an event that would benefit the wider local community. The Young Chamber board spent an afternoon here brainstorming ideas and producing a plan for how to make a profit - guided by the Chamber’s own Events Manager Sue Platt and Head of Membership Jenny Stewart.

The YC Events Board have decided to host their own talent show but with a budget of £150 and a pre-Christmas deadline, the youngsters need to work fast and are learning the real pressures of the business world!

Following a work session in the Chamber of Commerce, the YC students attended a Fashion Show at the Met Quarter where they were able to see some of today’s best clothing designs with other local creative entrepreneurs.

New Heys Young Chamber President Izzy Tyler said of the Event challenge “we’ve got a lot of work to do to deliver the talent show in a limited time but we’re really excited about having responsibility for running the entire thing. If this is a success we want to do our own fashion show next year!”

Make a healthy profit on the talent show and they may just get their wish!

Of the day, Head of Membership Jenny Stewart said “we couldn’t have found more enthusiastic, motivated young entrepreneurs. If only we could bottle that enthusiasm and sell it! They certainly kept us oldies on our toes!”

Young Chamber provides a framework for business and education to engage in a different way by allowing direct interfacing between schools and the business community across the Chamber membership. We believe schools and businesses can learn a lot from each other - get involved, and help shape your future workforce.

Chamber members and schools can Contact the Young Chamber coordinator Paul Cherpeau on 0151 227 1234 or email youngchamber@liverpoolchamber.org.uk for more information and to get involved.
