The fundamental message of the Construction (Design and Management) 2007 Regulations is clear; Health and Safety is everyone’s business and must be planned-in from the beginning and taken into account throughout a project.

Innov8 Safety Solutions have put together a series of articles to highlight the key changes in the new Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 (CDM 2007 usually known as the CDM Regulations) which have been in place since April of this year .

CDM 2007 is a classic example of how health and safety legislation is constantly changing and demonstrates that the concept of construction design management has not yet been fully realised.

Summary of Key Changes:

  • The Construction (Health Safety and Welfare) Regulations will now be combined with CDM 2007.
  • New single trigger of 30 days or 500 person days, for appointments, notification and H&S Plan.
  • Increased responsibility on clients to ensure adequate management arrangements are in place.
  • Removal of Clients Agent Appointment.
  • Planning Supervisor is removed and new duty holder CDM-Coordinator introduced.
  • Designers to ensure designers comply with Workplace Regulations.
  • Clarity in relations to competence assessments
  • Pre-tender H&S Plans replaced with Information Pack

Chamber Member Innov8 Safety Solutions has fulfilled the role of CDM Coordinator and Principal Contractor on numerous projects. In addition, we have been consulted by numerous clients with respect to CDM on many projects particularly with regards to the responsibilities placed on various Duty Holders. If you would like to discuss any of the issues related to the key changes to the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 (CDM 2007), contact Sam Davies at Innov8 Safety Solutions on 0845 468 1974 or email info@innov8safetysolutions.com.

Next month Innov8 Safety Solutions will look at the increased responsibilities on the role of the client and designer…..
