The Strand will be closed over the weekend 23 - 26 November. Our friends from the council say:
“In order to carry out the safe demolition of the footbridge we need to temporarily close both carriageways of The Strand between St Nicholas Place to James Street, including the junctions of Water Street and Brunswick Street, between 2000 hours Friday 23rd November though to 0500 hours Monday 26th November 2007. I have attached the TTRO identifying the proposed diversion route. Whilst the diversion takes traffic via the orbital route around the City, I would expect that there will be some congestion in the Commercial District as traffic familiar with the area tries to take other routes. There will be a massive scheme of traffic management in place together with the use of the VMS to try as best we can to keep traffic on the orbital. ”
Here’s the details of the closure and subsequent diversions. [Word Doc]
Messages will be displayed on the Variable Message Signs around the City. Wirral operate the VMS on their side and they have been informed them of the need to display the messages..
The Queensway dock exit will be closed.
Merseytravel have issued a roadwork’s notice to the bus operators and the information relating to the closure will also be on their website. There will also be notices placed on bus stops to advise passengers of the alternative arrangements in place. The Merseyside Travel Line will also have the information relating to the closure so that they can advise any persons making enquiries about travel through the affected area, and make them aware of the alternative arrangements in place.
No Friday Fun for a couple of weeks. Hope you’ve all managed to entertain yourselves in its absence - playing with matches and running with scissors etc.
