Liverpool has the honour of hosting 2008’s Holocaust Memorial Day and the associated programme of events.

Holocaust Memorial Day itself is 27th January. This is the international day of remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust and other genocides.

On it, we commemorate victims, honour survivors and commit to tackling prejudice, discrimination and racism in the present day. In hundreds of places across the UK, and in thousands around the world, people come together to honour the past and build a safer, fairer world.

The Main Commemorative Event will take place on 27 January 2008 at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

A programme of educational activities has been taking place across the city, with over two weeks of events taking place from 14 January until 31 January.

liquid-yc.jpgChamber members Liquid were the latest business to host the New Heys Young Chamber last month with a session delivered to Sixth Form Graphic Designers looking for some creative and business advice.

Eight budding designers have the brief to produce a range of promotional materials for a product and thanks to the advice of Liquid, they are well on the way to completing their portfolio.

The youngsters enjoyed a tour of Liquid’s offices, an introduction to the business, a case study presentation looking at taking a concept through to production and a presentation by Graduate Trainee, Gary Armer detailing his career journey.

The student were introduced to the practices of working to a brief, ‘pitching’ and responding to the client’s needs. The students will pitch their completed coursework to Liquid later in the year.

Commercial Director Bernie Emery stated: “We welcomed the opportunity to host a Young Chamber visit and have the opportunity to talk to the “designers of tomorrow”.

Young Chamber coordinator Paul Cherpeau added: “Creating direct links between our Chamber Members and young people is essential to inspire them to develop their own skills in readiness for entering the world of work or starting their own business.”
