Over 700 gospel singers will perform at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral on 13 June with the X-factor’s Beverley Trotman for an inspirational evening of great gospel chorale singing.
The mass gospel choir is made up of various choirs from across Merseyside that have participated in the City Sings Gospel project. The inclusion project, which has been running for three years, has supported and developed gospel choirs and groups. It has given individuals from businesses, churches, community groups and schools an opportunity to sing, many for the first time.
Experienced Gospel artists and choir members went out to teach new songs and to facilitate others to teach gospel music and singing.
Peter Hawley, one of the City Sings Gospel facilitators worked with Knotty Ash CP which formed a choir which included deaf children. “The children combine singing and sign language in their performances. I was in awe of them and their interpretation and expression of the songs,” he said.
Other existing choirs, such as the ‘Heart and Soul’ benefited from the new repertoire of songs and the teaching methods of the City Sings Gospel team. Peter notes “The quality of their performances improved substantially, giving them confidence. It unified them and now new members are eager to join”
The choirs have been working towards performing during the international gospel music festival, City Sings Gospel, this year. They will be joined by Beverley Trotman, a gospel artist that appeared on the X-factor and Norway’s Stavanger Gospel Choir.
Cathy Tyson, actress, will compere for the concerts.
There will be two performances of The Feast of Choirs at 18:00 and again at 19:45 on Friday 13th of June. Tickets are available on the City Sings Gospel website at www.csg08.com and at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral at £5.
