As Liverpool gears up for its Year of the Environment in 2009, the second Merseyside Transport Conference will examine transport for a growing city region and look at issues to be tackled in future - such as traffic growth and climate change.

The conference, to be held in Liverpool Town Hall on October 23, will discuss the link between the economy and transport. Debate will centre on managing the increased need to travel without creating unaccepatble traffic growth and improving quality of life.

Keynote speakers include Neil Scales, as Chair of the LTP Partnership, who will update delegates on progress on the Merseyside Local Transport Plan (LTP) and discuss planning for the future. Other keynote speakers include Phil Redmond - Deputy Chair of the Liverpool Culture Company, Joanne Jennings - Chief Executive of Liverpool One and John Whitelegg, Professor of Sustainable Transport at Liverpool John Moores University.
