Christmas is coming. And we all know what that means. Yep, putting together a teetering pile of cards for your colleagues in work. Well this year, why not save yourself the hassle, save a tree or two and help a worthy cause at the same time?

Rather than sending out all those cards, take part in Zoe’s Place Share A Card Scheme.

Zoes Place will provide your workplace a Share A Card poster. Staff simply need to sign the poster and make a donation to the hospice.

To join in, please email penny@zoes-place.org.uk or call 0151 228 0353.

Zöe’s Place is the only Baby Hospice in the UK. The West Derby based Hospice provides 24 hour one-to-one respite and palliative nursing care for infants aged 0-5 with life threatening or life limiting conditions.

They do not receive any central government or NHS funding. OTheir running costs of £700,000 per annum must be raised purely through public donations. For more information, please call 0151 228 0353 or join them at www.zoesplaceliverpool.org

The current economic climate hasn’t dampened The Business Connection’s (TBC) spirits.

Chester’s premier recruitment agency has opened its first Liverpool branch and has just announced plans to launch up to ten new commercial recruitment branches throughout Merseyside and the North West.

The first Merseyside TBC branch opened in the heart of Liverpool (Bixteth Street) on 9th October, with further offices planned throughout 2009 including Crewe, Warrington, Manchester, Stockport and Preston.

Founded 20 years ago by Kirsty Craig, TBC is Chester’s longest established recruitment agency. It has become the leading local temporary and permanent commercial recruitment agency, specialising in the Office Staffing, Contact Centre and Management sectors. The Business Connection serves the majority of Cheshire’s commercial clients and blue-chip financial services companies, including MBNA and M&S Money.

Liverpool was pinpointed by the company as a crucial growth opportunity even in today’s market. TBC’s MD, Kirsty Craig said: “Reacting to the significant growth we have seen in Liverpool’s commercial sector was paramount to us. We have spoken and worked with many Liverpool-based employers and even in these highly competitive times we have found that people trust us to perform for them and would rather invest in that service than make short-term savings.”

Kirsty adds: “In the recruitment sector narrowing profit margins have driven down the quality of service offered by many agencies. Our reputation is second to none and the success of the TBC business model is based on delighting clients and customers with an unmatched service.

“This is an exciting opportunity for our experienced senior management team to develop a superior regional recruitment service for Liverpool and we’re dedicated to emulating our accomplished business model and local success across Merseyside.”

Liverpool’s TBC team of five senior consultants, headed by newly promoted Operations Director, Rachel Hough, has already secured several key employers in Merseyside. Rachel will be overseeing TBC’s expansion programme.

Rachel adds: “We’re reacting to recent market developments by providing tailor-made solutions and consultations specialising in temp recruitment. Over the next 12 months, we will be building on our successful local reputation of providing the best standard of commercial temporary recruitment to spearhead an ambitious regional expansion programme throughout the North West starting in Merseyside.”

“Expanding will increase our pool of candidates across the region massively, which will be a great benefit to our clients, and will help provide Liverpool job-seekers with a greater choice of job vacancies.”

Jobcentre Plus has unveiled the North West Local Employment Partnership (LEP) Awards 2009 to celebrate the success of the business and government partnerships, which nationally have helped more than 38,000 people into jobs in their local communities.

The awards recognise employers, employees and partner organisations, who have gone the extra mile to help people who may have been disadvantaged in the labour market, get into the workplace.

Employers who have recruited through LEPs are eligible to nominate themselves, their employees and partner organisations for six awards ranging from Unlocking Talent to Recruitment Innovation.

Companies who make it through to the finals will be invited to a North West awards ceremony on 3 March next year where Tim Campbell, winner of the first series of The Apprentice and founder of the Bright Ideas Trust, will reveal the names of the winners.  Regional winners will be automatically entered into the National awards, to be held in London in June next year.

More details on the individual awards criteria and an online nomination form are available at the Jobcentre Plus website.

Nominations close on 28 November 2008 and the short-listed companies in each of the Regions and Countries will be announced during January 2009.
