JMU_Blenheim Liverpool John Moores University in partnership with Blenheim Associates presents
Postgraduate Certificate in Business Turnaround Management (England and Wales)

A unique, accredited programme providing essential understanding and skills in Business Turnaround Management

Business Turnaround

Small to Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of the UK’s economy. While experts in their fields, SMEs can struggle to meet the business management challenges posed by rapid change, ever increasing competition and shifting financial markets. Too often, good businesses fail.

When an organisation needs to improve its performance the Business Turnaround Specialist can make the crucial difference. With an ability to swiftly gather information, focus on key issues and generate workable solutions, the Business Turnaround Specialist will facilitate the turnaround of a business. Entering a company with a fresh perspective and complete objectivity, they will guide a company through the necessary steps for its survival and prosperity.

Postgraduate Certificate in Business Turnaround Management

This pioneering programme, the only one of its kind in the UK, is designed to develop the unique skills of the business turnaround specialist. Jointly delivered by practitioners from Blenheim Associates and academics from LJMU it combines the practical and the theoretical to offer an exceptional learning experience leading to accredited evidence
of expertise in Business Turnaround Management.

The course is structured around the life cycle of a ‘turnaround’ and comprises the following modules:

  • Diagnostic: how to determine whether or not the ultimate value
of the company is likely to exceed the investment (in time and resources)
    needed to ensure its survival.
  • Crisis management: taking action to stabilise the organisation,
deal with poor employee morale, increase profit margins and reduce
    overhead costs.
  • Stabilisation: restoring stability and addressing longer-term issues
such as development opportunities, new markets, staffing and other issues.
  • The future: ensuring that there is a team and a strategy in place
    to offer long-term viability.

Make A Will Month - April 2009

golden_pen Woodlands Hospice will be running their annual ‘Make a Will Month’ throughout April in partnership with local solicitors and a professional will writer to encourage those people who haven’t yet made a will to do so.

No one likes to think of making a Will and surprisingly only 3 in 10 people actually do so. The absence of formal arrangements however can cause a lot of distress to family members at a time when they are already very upset.

Solicitors participating in the scheme will help people make or amend a will waiving their usual standard fee in return for the person making a donation to the Hospice via the solicitor or professional will writer at the time of making the will.

Carole Riley, Fundraising & Communications Manager at Woodlands Hospice said: “We are very grateful to the following professional will writer and solicitors for taking part in this year’s scheme. Peace of Mind Wills Ltd, Kennan Benjamin Kay, Rex Makin & Co., Black Norman, Bartlett & Son, Maxwell Hodge and David Phillips. The scheme has gone from strength to strength since its introduction in 2006 providing a valuable service to local people and generating essential income for the hospice by way of donations. In this our special year when we will be opening our new 15 bed inpatient unit it is even more important that we secure vital funds to provide our specialist palliative care services through such initiatives”.

A properly organised Will ensures that your assets go to the people you love or to your preferred charity rather than to the State, often through Inheritance Tax. If you choose to make a donation to Woodlands Hospice or indeed any other UK registered charity in your will, that donation will be free from Inheritance Tax.

If you have already prepared your Will but wish Woodlands Hospice to benefit in some way this can easily be added to your initial arrangements.

If you would like further details of ‘Make a Will Month’ or would like to get the contact details of participating solicitors please contact the Fundraising Department at the hospice on 0151 529 2630.
