2018_world_cupYou will probably have seen in the media that Liverpool is competing to be a host city as part of England’s bid to stage the 2018 World Cup.

This is a tough competition with a number of other English football cities vying for the right to host World Cup matches if England succeeds in its bid.

The bid deadline is fast approaching and we are seeking to attract as much support as possible in this final furlong of the campaign.

One of the key elements for choosing a host city is the support of its residents and how much they want their city to be on the world stage in 2018.

As with our European Capital of Culture, we believe that Liverpool is at its strongest when the city gets behind initiatives like this. So we are asking for your support.

The easiest way to do this is by registering at the official England bid website: www.england2018bid.com/support/register.aspx

To the many of you who have already done this - thank you, your support is greatly appreciated.

To those of you who haven’t yet, please spend a minute today pledging your support, and urge your friends and family to do the same.

Between us, let’s give Liverpool the best chance of seizing this huge opportunity to become a host city.

With thanks

Warren Bradley

Leader of Liverpool City Council

sasLinda McCartney Centre provides cure for post-Christmas Blues!

The huge anti-climax after the year’s longest and most-anticipated party season usually leaves everyone feeling low and drained of energy - not to mention stony broke!

But rather than succumb to the inevitable post-Christmas blues, there is a great alternative which doesn’t cost the earth and which may well leave you feeling much brighter and ready to face the New Year with a smile on your face.

Santa’s Revenge is a walk over the famous Pen-Y-Fan in Brecon Beacons and is being organised on Saturday 23rd January by the Linda McCartney Centre.  Its aim is to allow people to blow the Christmas cobwebs off, whilst raising money for the specialist cancer treatment centre in Liverpool.

Pen-y-fan is well known as the training grounds for the UK Special Forces and was first used by the SAS. The Liverpool based charity has tracked down former members of the famous Special Forces Regiment to lead the walk and give an insight into what it takes to complete the world renowned Selection course.

Angela McShane, Fundraising Assistant, said “We are always looking for new and exciting events and we’re delighted to be offering people an opportunity to walk around the Brecon Beacons with former members of the SAS.  This charity walk allows people to walk at their own pace and for as far as they can, whilst raising money for the work conducted by our special staff, some of those that have already booked are looking forward the party at the end.”

The charity is asking each person that registers for raise a minimum of £100.

The charity expects a lot of interest in this event and recommend you secure your place early.
