The Second Jamaica-UK Investment Forum, London 2010

jamaican_beach_palmA UK - Jamaica Investment Forum is taking place in London Next February:

Background
On 5th February, 2009 over 150 delegates attended the First Jamaica-UK Investment Forum at Church House in central London. The Jamaican government, represented by its Deputy Prime Minister and several cabinet ministers, alongside several major businesses came to the UK for the purpose of engaging with the investment community from the United Kingdom and mainland Europe.

A number of specific investment sectors were discussed in detail with keynote presentations made by the Jamaican High Commissioner to the UK, the Caribbean Council, the Department for International Development (DFID) and parliamentarians. Private sector organisations who presented at the event included Digicel Group, Virgin Atlantic Airways and Grace Foods.

The event was immensely successful in highlighting Jamaica’s business opportunities and allowing for productive networking with a view to mobilising future investment. The attendance and level of attendees was well matched by an engaging programme with high-level speakers. The day’s activities portrayed Jamaica in a highly favourable light in terms of a destination point for FDI and greatly helped Jamaica’s profile within the business community in the UK and beyond.

After the success of February’s investment forum in the UK, coupled with an excellent and productive relationship with the Jamaican High Commission in the UK, DMA are holding the Second Jamaica Investment Forum in the UK in late February or early March 2010.

The principal reasons for hosting a second forum, in relatively quick succession after the first, are to:

  • build on the momentum of interest in Jamaica from the perspective of the business community in the UK and mainland Europe;
  • specifically target key businesses that operate in the UK and Europe in pre-determined business areas;
  • organise pre-arranged one-to-one/one-to-many meetings with the Jamaican Government and Jamaican business community to discuss specific projects;
  • continue to promote a favourable impression of Jamaica across the UK and in the press.

The Second Jamaica Investment Forum will take place over four sessions with a focus on:

  • Tourism & Trade – analysis of the strong progress being made within the tourism industry as Jamaica maintains its static as a desirable global tourist destination;
  • Infrastructure development, with a particular focus on ICT and transport infrastructure projects;
  • Financial Services – highlighting Jamaica’s modernisation process, wealth of resources and reform of the country’s banking sector.
  • Creative Industries and Sports – demonstrating the creation of a supportive environment for the creative industries and how Jamaica is positioning itself as a creative hub not just for the Caribbean but also for Europe and the Americas.

Jamaica’s rapidly growing industrial base will be examined with particular focus on the country’s growing regional trade relationships.
