Chamber member K2 Architects has completed a contract to redesign manufacturer C-TEC’s new company headquarters in Martland Park, Wigan in a project worth £1.5 million.
The undertaking saw the firm transform 73,000 square feet of industrial space into a state of the art high-tech manufacturing facility for the owner-occupiers.
Mark Davies, director at K2 Architects, said the project showcased K2’s core offering of creative design, project delivery and full architectural service:
“Our brief was to create a world class facility that reflected the ethos of the company as a global manufacturer.
“C-TEC required a building that was inspirational, functional and at the forefront of innovation.”
K2 Architects combined the functions of three previous buildings unifying the company’s 200-strong workforce in one fully integrated facility.
“C-TEC’s manufacturing, distribution and R&D functions are now housed alongside open plan office accommodation and conference facilities in one building,” he continued. “This required us to design several highly specialised work areas including 18,000 sq ft of open, dry laboratory space containing electronic equipment, accurate temperature and humidity control along with clean power.”
Mr. Davies said that significant structural alterations were made to create the building’s new office accommodation and exhibition spaces, housed within a new atrium:
“We created a new mezzanine floor and remodelled the existing structural slab to create a large double height void.
“But the result is spectacular, a clean, highly refined entrance area flooded with natural light.
“The atrium also features a floating glass staircase and an exhibition space where the story of C-TEC’s evolution instantly greets visitors.”
“The building is specifically designed for the needs of C-TEC as a global technology company.
“After a phased opening, the company has now fully moved in.”
