roycastle.jpgThe Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is looking for adventurous people to take part in its Three Peaks Challenge event over the weekend of 21st August 2009.

This is a mental and physical test, in which participants climb up (and back down) Britain’s three highest mountains - Ben Nevis (Scotland 1344m), Scarfell Pike (England 978m) and Snowdon (Wales 1085m).

The challenge is back to back, and will be completed in 24 hours.

The event is organised in conjunction with local company Go Commando and all involved will be in the very safe and capable hands of Greg Pye (former Royal Marine Commando, experienced mountaineer and trained paramedic). The charity organises all the travel and accommodation, so you can concentrate on raising your sponsorship money and climbing those mountains!

This challenge appeals to people of all ages, all walks of life. Although you need to be of reasonable fitness, you don’t need to be ‘super-fit’ to take part. You will receive 2 training days in advance of the Challenge and on-line motivational support.

“An experience never to be forgotten. Apart from the personal sense of achievement, the camaraderie that was built within the group in such a small amount of time was tremendous. The leadership was such that, even in the most trying of conditions, we all felt safe. It is amazing what the body is capable of when the mind takes over.”
